This Privacy Policy explains what personal data FluffyTrips.com collects, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and your rights over your own data. It applies to all users of the Site, whether you browse as a guest or as a registered contributor.

1. Who We Are

FluffyTrips.com (“FluffyTrips,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a community-powered directory of pet-friendly places. We are the data controller responsible for the personal data collected through this Site.

2. What Data We Collect

We collect only the data necessary to operate the directory and provide a safe, functional experience for our community.

Account data: Username, email address, password (hashed), date joined — collected on registration
Profile data: Display name, optional bio, optional profile photo, general location (if provided voluntarily) — collected when editing your profile
Contribution data: Listings submitted, edits made, reviews and tips written, photos uploaded — collected when contributing to the directory
Usage data: Pages visited, searches made, browser type, device type, IP address, referring URL — collected automatically during all visits
Communications: Messages sent to us via email or contact forms — collected when you contact us
Report data: Content flagged and reason for report — collected when you flag a listing or review

We do not collect payment information, government IDs, or any sensitive personal data. We never ask for your pet’s information beyond what you choose to share in your public profile or reviews.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect for the following purposes:

To operate the directory — displaying listings, enabling search, and showing contributions attributed to your username
To manage your account — authentication, account security, and support requests
To moderate content — reviewing flagged listings, investigating abuse reports, and enforcing our community guidelines
To communicate with you — sending account-related emails (e.g., password resets, policy updates). We do not send marketing emails unless you explicitly opt in
To improve the Site — analyzing usage patterns (in aggregate) to understand how the directory is used and where it can be improved
To ensure security — detecting and preventing spam, abuse, and unauthorized access

We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you.

4. Public Visibility of Your Contributions

FluffyTrips is a public directory. Please be aware of what is visible to all visitors:

Listings you add, edits you make, reviews you write, and photos you upload are publicly visible and attributed to your username
Your edit history on any listing is visible to other registered users and our moderation team
Your display name and optional profile information (bio, photo, general location) are publicly visible on your profile page

Your email address is never displayed publicly. Only you and authorized FluffyTrips staff can see the email address associated with your account.

Because contributions are part of the public directory, removing your account does not automatically remove all your past contributions — listing data and edits may be retained to maintain the integrity of the directory. See Section 7 for more detail.

5. Cookies and Tracking

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies to keep the Site functional and to understand how it is used.

Essential cookies: Keeping you logged in, maintaining your session, security tokens. These are required for the Site to function and cannot be opted out of.
Preference cookies: Remembering your display settings (e.g., map view vs list view). You can opt out via cookie settings.
Analytics cookies: Understanding aggregate traffic patterns (e.g., page views, popular searches). We use privacy-friendly analytics and do not share individual data with ad networks. You can opt out via the cookie banner or browser settings.

We do not use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or third-party tracking for commercial purposes. FluffyTrips does not show ads and does not sell data to advertisers.

6. How We Share Your Data

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only in these limited circumstances:

Service providers: Third-party vendors who help us operate the Site (e.g., hosting, email delivery, analytics). These providers are contractually bound to use your data only to provide services to us.
Legal obligations: If required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of FluffyTrips, our users, or the public.
Business transfers: If FluffyTrips is acquired or merges with another entity, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your data is subject to a different privacy policy.
With your consent: In any other circumstance, only with your explicit consent.

Public contribution data (listings, edits, reviews) may be indexed by search engines and accessed by third parties through any public API we may offer in the future.

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our services.

Account data: Retained while your account is active. Deleted within 30 days of an account deletion request, subject to the exceptions below.
Contribution data: Listings, edits, and reviews you submitted may be retained even after account deletion to preserve the continuity of the directory. Attribution may be anonymized (e.g., “Deleted user”) rather than removed.
Usage logs: Retained for up to 12 months for security and abuse prevention purposes, then deleted or anonymized.
Support communications: Retained for up to 2 years to help resolve follow-up issues.

If you would like your account and associated personal data deleted, contact us at privacy@fluffytrips.com. We will confirm receipt and process your request within 30 days.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over your personal data:

Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
Correction: Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data
Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal and operational exceptions
Objection: Object to certain types of data processing, such as analytics
Portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format
Opt out of emails: Unsubscribe from non-essential communications at any time

9. Children’s Privacy

FluffyTrips is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in certain jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has created an account on our Site, please contact us at privacy@fluffytrips.com and we will promptly delete the account and associated data.

10. International Users

FluffyTrips is accessible worldwide. If you are located outside the country where our servers are hosted, your data may be transferred to and processed in a different jurisdiction. We take appropriate safeguards to ensure your data is protected in accordance with this Privacy Policy regardless of where it is processed.

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have rights under GDPR or equivalent laws. Our lawful basis for processing your data is: contract performance (account and contribution features), legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, Site improvement), and consent (optional analytics cookies).

If you are a California resident, you have rights under the CCPA, including the right to know what data we collect, the right to delete, and the right to opt out of sale (we do not sell data). You may exercise these rights by contacting privacy@fluffytrips.com.

11. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. These include encrypted data transmission (HTTPS), hashed password storage, and access controls that limit who within our team can access personal data.

No system is completely secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately at support@fluffytrips.com. In the event of a data breach that affects your rights or freedoms, we will notify you and relevant authorities as required by applicable law.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify registered users by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect.

Continued use of the Site after the updated policy takes effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.
